Situated in western Zimbabwe, Hwange National Park is one of Africa’s great parks and is home to over 100 species of mammals, including 19 large herbivore and 8 large carnivore species, and nearly 400 species of birds. Hwange is elephant country and much of the game viewing relates to magnificent opportunities to view these, the largest land mammals, in a completely wild state.
A highlight of your trip is visiting the Community Rhino Conservation Initiative wildlife sanctuary where you’ll meet and spend time with Hwange’s new rhinos and the Cobra Rangers guarding them 24/7 – lots of photo opportunities and quality time to watch and enjoy the white rhino in their new home on the Ngamo plains.
Activities range from guided walking ( a true highlight as Zimbabwe’s walking guide standards are widely known as the best in the safari world), to look-up hides and viewing platforms that overlook the pans for unique photography opportunities and close-up viewing right at camp, to game drives and night drives, to visiting local villages and schools where you can have authentic cultural interactions. (And, there’s even a chance to mountain bike on this itinerary!)
