Join The Wild Source’s Fadhil Magoye on a one-of-a-kind research safari to two of Tanzania’s big and wild National Parks – Serengeti and Ruaha – staying at classic down-to-earth camps. This is a special small group safari, limited to a maximum of just 6 guests.

In the Serengeti, you’ll be joined by Njozi Camp’s biologist team who are studying the area’s big cats. In Tanzania The Wild Source has partnered with the African Carnivore Wildbook for trial work of a new AI cat identification system, and guests on this safari can upload their photos of cheetah and leopard to the ever-growing database. August is also prime time for the iconic Great Migration in the Northern Serengeti, and in addition to seeking out the cats you’ll also have the opportunity to catch some river crossing action.

You’ll then fly south with Fadhil for an extended visit to the lesser-known Ruaha National Park, famed for its big herds of buffalo, large prides of lions, and exceptional concentrations of elephant. You’ll have great opportunities to see leopard, cheetah, three hyena species, and several different antelope species.

First up is a stay at Usangu Expedition Camp. Set on the outskirts of the Usangu floodplains, the camp is deep in the remote southern corner of Ruaha. This is a remote and pioneering camp – the guests at camp are the only people exploring this vast 2,300 square mile section of the park. This area is home to a large variety of lion, cheetah, leopard, wild dog as well as large herds of plains game. You’ll head out on a variety of activities: in addition to game drives, there is boating, extensive night game drives, and walking safaris led by the camp’s highly experienced guides. You’ll also have the opportunity to sleep out under the stars at the fly camp! Research activities here include setting your own camera trap and viewing the results during your stay; recording your animal and plant sightings in iNaturalist for record-keeping and distribution mapping; and visits to the Douglas Bell Information Centre – presentations from the area researchers are also a possibility.

Continue to Ruaha’s prime wildlife viewing area, with good cat sightings and buffalo coming down from the escarpment in herds of up to 1000. Activities here will include game drives, walking safaris and night drives with the exceptional camp guide and Fadhil. You’ll stay at Kokoko, a small and exclusive camp with just 3 tents, where the focus is on exploring and discovering, getting close to nature, as safaris are meant to be.

At both Ruaha camps, your meals are cooked over the fire and the guides, guests and camp crew share stories together. This is a special and intimate safari experience not to be missed!
