Selinda Camp is located in the 300,000 acre Selinda Reserve in northern Botswana and is built on a wooded island on the banks of the Selinda Spillway close to where the Linyanti, Savuti and Kwando Rivers come together. The views of the open flood plains and savanna are astounding and wildlife is a constant feature of the camp.
This camp is owned and was rebuilt in 2007 by famed wildlife filmmakers Dereck and Beverly Joubert. They have created one of Botswana’s most luxurious tented camps featuring nine well-appointed tents with expansive views and large bathroom areas. The common areas include an art gallery, plunge pool, chilled wine cellar, and two meal areas that are under thatch and under the stars. Splendid meals are featured and this is a camp where refinement meets the wild.
Selinda Camp offers game drives throughout the day – focusing primarily on early morning and afternoon/early evening game drives – but guests can travel out at midday to enjoy a siesta at one of the game viewing hides that are mostly located overlooking water. Short or full morning walks can be arranged and boating is also on offer as is fly-fishing (but guests must bring their own fly rods).
It is also possible to arrange a sleepout on an elevated platform with just a mattress and mosquito net for an unbelievable wilderness experience but you will be hard pressed to give up a night in your tent.
The Selinda Reserve is well known for its outstanding predator viewing as the open plains are especially good for observing the highly endangered African wild dog and cheetah. Lions and leopard are also seen with frequency and there is a good variety of antelope species including spectacular sable and roan antelope. Giraffe and elephants are regular fixtures.

Selinda Camp Reviews

Comments: I’m not sure how Selinda could be improved. There was a great vibe, and the staff worked hard to ensure good interaction between themselves and guests. Everything was very attractive, very comfortable, and presented well; the staff managed to make the running of the camp seem effortless. I loved sitting by our tent and watching elephants and cape buffaloes placidly eating or just standing in the water. We really appreciated the effort to accommodate our vegetarian diet; in addition, the food was excellent. Kane, our guide at Selinda, was well-organized, did a terrific job of pacing our days, and knew the birds and where to find them—a real bonus. We really enjoyed talking with him—his context is unbelievable and he has a real emotional connection to the land and its animals. We saw wild dogs on three occasions over 2 days at Selinda—wonderful sightings all. On each occasion, we were able to observe a new behavior. Our week in Botswana was a wonderful experience, one that we will never forget. The trip greatly exceeded our expectations.

Comments: Wonderful guide, knowledgeable and concerned about guest wishes and comfort. Mots talked about plant life, changes in animal food patterns during the different seasons. We had an amazing suite of rooms at Selinda.

Comments: This was the best camp of all! We loved the food, the people, our tent, and the pick your own wine cellar. We had many amazing adventures. Guide, Stanley, knocked himself out. I think sometimes we felt he got closer to the hippos than we would have preferred. On the other hand, he was cool under pressure, like when the starter on the Land Cruiser wouldn’t work and we’re an hour from camp, parked right next to a bush hiding lion cubs. Mama was expected back any time! He got it started and we got back! Stanley worked hard to find us lions and succeeded. Then, as a “gift” there was a pride about a quarter mile from the air strip the morning we left! Jene, who was a fill-in hostess, was great. Banaki, there all the time, was wonderful. They had a large staff of people, all of whom were very attentive and polite. This was one of the nicest places we have ever stayed.

Comments: The accommodations were fantastic. We enjoyed the comfort of Selinda. Selinda felt like a 5-star hotel where every luxurious detail had been thought of. Guide Joe was fantastic, very personable, professional, and clearly educated about the wildlife and interested to share his knowledge with the guests. We absolutely loved our trip. Botswana is an amazing country and we’re very happy that we picked this country for our safari.
