Savute Under Canvas
Savute is a remote section of Chobe National Park that is renowned for its wildlife and high drama, with a number of famous films including Eternal Enemies: Lions and Hyenas made in the area. The April/May time frame is especially interesting as huge herds of zebra and wildebeest annually migrate through the area and often do a lot of their calving here.
This is a luxury tented camp that is moved frequently within the park at private campsites. This camp is operated by the well known &Beyond (formerly CC Africa). This is reminiscent of the mobile camps in the Serengeti of Tanzania and is a classic safari experience harkening to the days of Hemingway and an ideal way to commune with the wild.
The presence of the herds just intensifies what is already known to be a fantastic region for predators. Lion prides are big and even known to hunt elephants during the height of the dry season. They are in constant competition with huge spotted hyena clans. African wild dog and cheetah often move through the area as well. The Savute Marsh and various waterholes are particularly rich with wildlife in this otherwise dry area and the viewing of elephants and other plains game can be very good here.
This intimate camp features just six en-suite safari tents, carefully positioned in exclusive semi-permanent campsites in the expansive Savute Corner of Chobe National Park, offering exceptional game viewing opportunities. Each luxury en-suite mobile tent boasts a comfortable double bed, en-suite bathroom, separate w.c. and a hot bucket shower – this is the ultimate in luxury camping with a vintage safari style.
The central guest areas comprise comfortable tents for dining, meeting for a pre-dinner drink, or just for whiling the time away between safaris – complete with private butler service, delicious home-baked meals, and traditional bush dinners served under the stars.
