We have made guiding a unique selling point for The Wild Source. Without a doubt the guiding is the most critical factor to the success on your safari. Despite this fact very few travelers have any idea who will be guiding their safari when they book their trip. To make it more confusing, many safari planners talk about “our guides” on their websites and proposals, but they are not their guides at all. Those guides actually work for 3rd party ground operators or are resident camp guides. In either case, the planner typically has no idea who the actual guide will be, which is why they don’t name your guide at time of booking.
Below are the details on our guiding arrangements.
In Tanzania we have a full ground operation where we have a small portfolio of stellar guides working for The Wild Source. Right in your safari proposal we provide you with a biography of who your guide will be. We might be the only company in Tanzania that names the guide on each Northern Circuit safari.
In Kenya we have formed an innovative co-op with the top local (Maasai and Dorobo) freelance guides. The guides on the team are their own entrepreneurs and have chosen to participate in the special co-op model with The Wild Source. We are able to kit out these legendary guides with best in Kenya open sided vehicles and have built a special portfolio of camps that our guide partners prefer to use due to their prime locations and flexible set ups to support private guides. Our guide team includes legends Jackson Looseyia and Paul Kirui.
Rest of Africa
In the rest of Africa we have the ability to arrange specialist freelance guides but that does add a significant premium so in most cases we do use camp-based resident guides. In Botswana, this is a great way to go as the resident guide will know that private concession area better than any visiting guide could. Our advantage here is that The Wild Source Director, Bill Given, conducts lion research in Botswana and frequently guides groups throughout the region. In doing so Bill has established a large personal network of guides that he has worked together with so we know which guides to request at the top wildlife viewing camps.
