Thursday, 28 January 2010 09:09 by BillGiven

Mapula Lodge

The Journaling Safari 2010 now moves on to Mapula Lodge. The third of our five Botswana destinations, Bill gets ready for three nights at what is probably his favorite safari destination.

Mapula Lodge Overview

As Mapula Lodge is likely Bill's favorite place, he has been there countless times. During his trips to Mapula Lodge, he was able to put together a lot of useful information about Mapula Lodge. To learn more about Mapula Lodge, be sure to check out these resources:

Mapula Lodge Videos

The Wild Source Video chanel contains multiple videos of Mapula Lodge - both of the grounds at Mapula Lodge as well as the wildlife. Bill took both videos you see below. The first video is pretty amazing and showcases one of the things that Mapula Lodge is famous for - endangered African Wild Dog dens. In the second video below, you can get a look at the Mapula Lodge common area. The video was taken by Bill Given and includes video of the dining area, mokoros (dugout canoes), and a bar which overlooks hippos in the water.

Mapula Lodge Wildlife

As you have already seen from the videos above, Mapula Lodge is well known for being a great place to view the endangered African Wild Dog. African Wild Dogs frequently den in the vicinity of Mapula Lodge, giving visitors to Mapula a wonderful opportunity to view puppies. Lions, caracal, and serval are also frequently viewed. Cape Buffalo and elephants - while in the area - don't congregate in large herds, but most visitors will still see them. Impala, lechwe, and Sable antelope inhabit the area around Mapula Lodge as well.

Next up: Selinda Camp - to see all of the destinations on the 2010 journaling safari, see the itinerary and map (both below).
