Journaling Safari Days 2-4: Sankuyo Bush Camp

Saturday, 23 January 2010 13:34 by BillGiven

Sankuyo Bush Camp

Bill has now arrived at Sankuyo Bush Camp. He actually arrived at Sankuyo Bush Camp on the Sankuyo Plains on January 21st. He's wrapping up his visit to Sankuyo Bush Camp and will be heading over to the Grassland Bushman Lodge tomorrow.

Sankuyo Bush Camp Overview

For a great overview of Sankuyo Bush Camp, I encourage you to check out our Sankuyo Bush Camp page. I'll provide a summary of what Sankuyo Bush Camp is all about in this blog post.

Wildlife at Sankuyo Bush Camp

We should hear the official trip report from Bill shortly, but Sankuyo Bush Camp is a prime area for viewing predators. African Wild Dog, lions (3 prides in the vicinity), cheetah, leopard, and spotted hyena all call the area near Sankuyo Bush Camp home. Sankuyo obviously isn't just limited to predators. The herbivores - many of which are on the menu - include zebra, giraffe, and elephants - to name just a few.

Community First at Sankuyo Bush Camp

Sankuyo Bush Camp is unique in that the local community receives 50% of the camp profits. Typicall in Botswana, local communities will receive a fee for leasing out the property. Not so with Sankuyo. The community owns the camp and participates in the sharing of profits.

Next up: Grassland Bushman Lodge - to see all of the destinations on the 2010 journaling safari, see the itinerary and map (both below).
