Kwara Camp, Okavango Delta, Botswana

A Top Game Viewing Destination

I consider Kwara Camp one of the top areas in Botswana for game viewing. Kwara is located within one of the largest (almost half a million acres) private concession areas in all of Botswana, and it is also one of the richest for wildlife. The area surrounding Kwara Camp is very diverse including permanent waters of the Okavango Delta, wide-open plains, mopane woodlands, and palm islands. Kwara is owned and operated by the legendary Kwando Camps, known for their hard core dedication for game viewing. Kwara concession is rich in predators and this area has been one of the most productive for big cat sightings, with cheetah, leopard, and lions often observed.

Due to the specific location of the camp, Kwara Camp is able to offer, power boating, mekoro (dug out canoe) trips, walks and game drives. Game drives at Kwara can operate both off road and at night providing the best opportunity for quality wildlife viewing. The presence of permanent water ensures year round game viewing and also allows for mekoro trips in shallow water throughout the year. Kwara Camp also has a double-deck pontoon boat, which allows guests to get very close to birds and animals for up-close photography and game viewing. Well-trained, armed guides conduct game walks and transfer their knowledge to their guests, sometimes when the grasses are high walks may not be available.

Kwara camp comprises 8 twin-bedded rustic safari style tents accommodating a maximum of 16 guests. The tents are built on raised teak decks each with en-suite facilities. The intimate dining and lounge area is under thatch, built around a large shade tree overlooking the lagoon. Kwara Camp has a small gift shop, lounge, dining room and communal plunge pool. The setting is spectacular with wonderful sounds from hippos and birds.

For diversity of activities and game viewing Kwara Camp is one of our highest recommended camps.
