Water Safaris in Africa (by canoe, mokoro, powerboat or houseboat)

Typically exploring by some manner of boat is an activity that is mixed in during a safari but there are some special locations where multi-day trips can be done by boat. Canoeing the Zambezi River can be one of the most exhilarating ways to experience Africa and big game sightings do occur frequently.

In the Okavango Delta the mokoro (traditionally a wooden dugout boat, synthetic materials are usually used now to protect the natural resources) is the local mode of transportation and safaris can be conducted by mokoro camping out on islands throughout the Delta. Safari by canoe or mokoro may be the best way to experience how local people have traditionally lived in these regions and to obtain the feeling of an adventurous explorer. Motor boat and even living on a house boat are available in some locations.
